Please contact us well in advance to avoid disappointment. If you want photographs of your newborn baby then it’s a good to discuss this well in advance too – they will be growing up all too soon!
I can visit you in the comfort of your own home, bringing my portable studio to allow studio type shots. This allows you to be in an environment in which you feel comfortable, it also allows us to take some photos that reflect your own home, for example, if you have newly decorated a room for the new arrival! Alternatively, if you would prefer, you can visit our studio in Harby.
As parents ourselves we know how exciting a time this will be for you. We want to work with you to achieve some lovely photographs of you and your bump that you will treasure for many years to come. It can be helpful if, before your shoot, you think about any particular “look” or any things that are special to you that you would like us to capture, for example the baby’s newly decorated nursery or a new toy for your future baby. Whatever you decide we will sure you will enjoy maternity photography experience and the photographs will help you capture this very special time for many years to come.
The list of frequently asked questions, below, may help when you are planning your session.
When is the best time to get my photographs taken?
We want you to be at your best with your bump at its most magnificent! Generally, this will be between 4 to 8 weeks before your due date, when the bump is larger but before you start feeling more tired. Leaving it too late also runs the risk of baby making an unexpectedly early arrival! If you are expecting more than one baby then scheduling earlier can be a good idea. You might also choose to have an additional photo session earlier to track the progress of your bump’s development, from 4 – 5 months.
Where will the photography session take place?
We will usually travel to you, to allow the photography session to take place in the comfort of your own home, in surroundings that you are used to. This will help you to relax and enjoy the session so that we can get the best possible photos. We can work with a variety of portable backgrounds and use either natural light or portable studio lighting to achieve beautiful photos of you and your bump. We could also take photographs of you in various rooms throughout your home or outdoors if the weather permits. It’s all about making the session as personal to you as we can. If you prefer to come to us, then this is also possible and we have a studio area available for this purpose.
What should I wear on the day?
What you wear for your photographs is entirely up to you and depends on the “look” we are trying to achieve. Prior to the session, please avoid wearing any tight clothing as this can leave marks on your skin. Generally, it’s a good idea to have several outfits available for the photo shoot, wearing clothes that you feel great in. Black leggings or trousers work well when combined with with either a black or white vest top (it’s a good idea to have both). Jeans can also work well with a white top; a white shirt, unbuttoned to show off your bump works well in combination. Generally it’s best to avoid any clothes which have very bold colours or patterns or large logos as they can be distracting in the final photos.
Can my partner and/or other family members be involved?
Absolutely yes! This is a most marvelous time for all the family and of course we’d be happy for them to be involved, whether it’s your partner, children or other close family members. We’ll generally take some photos of you on your own and with other members of the family.
How long will the photography session last?
Typically, we would expect to take up to 2 hours depending on the kind of photos we are trying to obtain. We like to work in a relaxed manner, have fun while we go along, and work at your own pace! If you need a break during the session, then that is just fine.
